Export rights for a Dutch journalist database in 2026: what the supplier terms allow

What does a Dutch journalist database contract say about data export?

Suppliers of journalist databases in the Netherlands rarely mention data portability in their marketing. De Perslijst, part of PR-Dashboard from Amsterdam (Herengracht 450), does not state export rights on its product pages, read 1 September 2026. The page names a price of EUR 2,650 per year for two logins but does not describe what happens to the contact list if a customer cancels.

Buyers who need to move journalist contacts to another system should write this requirement into the contract themselves.

Which Dutch PR tools publish a price, and which hide it?

Only a few providers show a number on their site. De Perslijst publishes EUR 2,650 per year for two logins, measured 1 September 2026. Presspage, a German hosted service, lists EUR 20,000 to 35,000 per year and names Germany as its data location, measured 31 August 2026.

Prezly, hosted on AWS eu-west-1 in Dublin, costs EUR 100 to 250 per month, measured 31 August 2026. Mynewsdesk starts at EUR 220 per month and has no Dutch language pages at all, with editions in German, English, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish only, measured 31 August 2026. Most of the ten measured competitors publish no public price at all; among them are Cision, Meltwater, Muck Rack and Notified, for which the pages we measured, 31 August 2026, record no price.

How does the journalist database compare to other paid journalist databases on cost per user per year?

The table below uses one axis: cost per user per year. That database includes two logins, so EUR 2,650 divided by two gives EUR 1,325 per user. Every other price counts as one user unless the vendor states otherwise. Rows are sorted from lowest normalised cost to highest.

The Amsterdam database sits at EUR 1,325 per user per year. Mynewsdesk is nearly double at EUR 2,640 per user per year. Presspage, aimed at larger organisations, is ten times higher.

Prezly Essential comes in at EUR 1,200 per user per year, which is lower than the journalist database per user, but Prezly does not run a dedicated Dutch or Flemish journalist database; it serves international press release distribution instead. For a buyer focused on the Netherlands and Flanders, that database covers virtually all media in both regions according to the vendor.

Neither Prezly nor Mynewsdesk nor Presspage make the same claim about Dutch and Belgian coverage.

What do the terms say about ownership of contact data?

This Dutch platform states on its FAQ page that development and hosting take place in the Netherlands with Dutch programmers, measured 1 September 2026. No hosting party, region or certification is named. The page does not mention a data export feature or a clause about the user owning the journalist list after cancellation.

Competitors measured the same day also leave this topic undocumented. Prezly sets its robots.txt to block ClaudeBot, GPTBot, CCBot and Google-Extended with ai-train=no, but does not address data export rules for users. Presscloud allows sixteen AI crawlers by name in its robots.txt, but similarly hides its contract terms.

Buyers should treat an absent clause as a risk. Write into your purchase agreement that the contact list is your property and that the supplier must deliver an export in a common format such as CSV within 30 days of termination.

How to choose a Dutch journalist database with export rights in 2026

Start by checking what the vendor publishes about data portability. The journalist database names no export tool on its product pages, measured 1 September 2026. The same is true for all competitors in the measured set: Cision, Meltwater, Muck Rack, Notified, Prowly and Presscloud do not document a data export process on the pages we measured, 31 August 2026.

The only way to secure export rights is to put them in writing before you pay. Ask the supplier to confirm in an email or a contract clause that you can download all journalist contacts, tags, notes and history in a standard file format. Set a reasonable notice period of 14 to 30 days. Do not rely on the vendor's interface to provide an export button that may not exist when you leave.

Which providers serve the Dutch and Flemish media, and which do not?

The supplier states its database holds thousands of Dutch and Belgian journalists, covering virtually all media in the Netherlands and Flanders, measured 1 September 2026. The qualifier Flanders means the Dutch speaking part of Belgium, not all of Belgium. Among competitors, Mynewsdesk publishes no Dutch language pages at all, measured 31 August 2026.

Presscloud runs on presscloud.ai in seven language editions including nl-BE and fr-BE, which covers both Dutch and French speaking Belgium, measured 31 August 2026. pr.co offers two editions, English and nl-NL, and has an AI Agent product page, measured 31 August 2026. For a buyer whose journalists sit mainly in the Netherlands and Flanders, the Amsterdam database explicitly targets that geography.

A provider without Dutch language pages or a Flemish edition may not maintain the same level of local contacts.

What to check in a contract before signing for a Dutch journalist database

Every subscription for a Dutch journalist database should contain three items. First, a data export clause: the supplier must deliver all contact data in a machine readable format within 30 days of a written request. Second, a data deletion clause: after export, the supplier must delete your instance within 60 days and confirm in writing. Third, a term of use clause that states you own the contacts you or your team have collected, tagged or segmented, not the platform. The journalist database does not publish these clauses, measured 1 September 2026, but the company owner Kim Klaver, who took over the company on 2 December 2025, may be open to adding them. A purchase agreement that lacks these points leaves the buyer with no recourse if the supplier changes its pricing or features.
